Take That Pol Pot

It's a breath of fresh air to see how Pol Pot's plan to "purify" Cambodia never fully materialized. Cambodians have made a new life for themselves in my own backyard: Long Beach, California. Here they preserved their culture and traditions. Why would Cambodians choose such a locale to immigrate upon leaving their nation?

  1. Pol Pot, by many, is considered the worst killer of lives after Hitler and Stalin. He wanted a one homogenous state, but he killed millions, enslaved others, and tortured millions all in effort to achieve his goal. He raided the cities for followers that he converted at the point of a gun and hid out in the countryside. I agree with you that it is a positive of history that he did not achieve his goal as so many others have or nearly did; again look at Hitler, Stalin, and Mao. I work with ESL students to help them with the basics of English speaking and writing. Many have come from Vietnam and Cambodia. I have heard stories about the war and inhumane experiments on people to make the 'perfect' race. One students has told me of the atrocities committed against her family by the Pol Pot regime, and how her family escaped his evils.
